Friday, April 11th, 2008

The Dental Council of India (DCI) is a statutory body incorporated under the Dentists’ Act, 1948 to regulate dental education and the profession of dentistry throughout India. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (Department of Health), Govt. of India finances it through Grant-in-aid. It plays a pivotal role in regulating dental education, dental profession and dental ethics. Its main functions include prescribing the standard curriculam for training of dentists, dental hygienists and technicians, stipulating standards of examination, ensuring that every dental college is affiliated to a University, besides supervising all dental institutes to ensure that they adhere to the set standards.

It is due to the untiring efforts of the DCI, that in the present day, dentistry occupies a disparate sphere of its own in the Indian medical scenario. The DCI guidelines have gone a long way in helping dental education gain recognition as specialised vista and a stream of medical study with myriad possibilities. To cater to the growing demand, a large number of colleges recognised by the Dental Council of India have now mushroomed all over the country. Amongst the multitude of dental colleges, the name of Hindustan Institute of Dental Sciences (HIDS) under the umbrella of the Sharda Group of Institutions (SGI) stands high and tall. The SGI Group aspires to train aspirants with world-class competencies to make them adept at facing the challenges of the global industry with confidence.
